New Garden Parallels

When things are new, the Bible lays out a peculiar set of similarities:

First Time

Everything is new
Adam and Eve tempted in a garden
They ate forbidden fruit
They were naked and ashamed
A curse fell upon man and his offspring

Second Time

Everything was renewed
Noah planted a garden
He drank of the wine
He was naked and ashamed
A curse fell upon his son and his offspring

Third Time’s The Charm

“Behold – I make all things new”
Jesus prayed in the garden
He drank of the wine (and the cup)
He knew not sin; He took on our shame
New life fell upon His sons and sons’ sons

Oh yeah — and then there’s that crazy part about the naked man running around in the garden!!

[While Jesus was being arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane], a certain young man, having a linen cloth wrapped around his naked body, was following Him. They caught hold of him, but he left the linen cloth behind and ran away naked. ()

Go figure!

51 And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him, 52 but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked. (ESV)
